Ingredients

Scale

Meat

  • 1 pound ground beef (or pork or sausage)
  • 1 pound pork sausage, casings removed
  • 1 tablespoon butter

Vegetables

  • 1 cup onion, diced
  • 1 cup bell pepper, diced
  • 1 cup celery, diced
  • 3 cloves garlic, chopped
  • 2 green onions, sliced
  • 2 tablespoons parsley, chopped

Seasonings and Others

  • 2 tablespoons Cajun seasoning
  • 4 cups beef broth
  • 2 cups long-grained rice
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce (optional)
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce (optional)
  • 2 bay leaves
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Prepare the meat and vegetables: Melt the butter in a large pan over medium-high heat. Add the ground beef, pork sausage, diced onion, bell pepper, and celery. Cook while breaking up the beef, stirring occasionally, until the meat is browned and the vegetables are tender, about 10 minutes.
  2. Add garlic and seasoning: Stir in the chopped garlic and Cajun seasoning. Cook for about a minute until the mixture is fragrant, ensuring the spices coat the meat and vegetables evenly.
  3. Cook the rice with broth and sauces: Pour in the beef broth, add the long-grained rice, Worcestershire sauce, soy sauce, and bay leaves. Stir well, bring the mixture to a boil.
  4. Simmer until rice is done: Reduce the heat to low, cover the pan, and let it simmer gently for 20 minutes or until the rice is fully cooked and has absorbed the liquid.
  5. Finish and serve: Remove the bay leaves. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Fold in sliced green onions and chopped parsley. Serve warm and enjoy the classic Cajun flavors.

Notes

  • You can substitute ground beef with all pork sausage or ground pork if preferred.
  • Worcestershire and soy sauce add depth but can be omitted for a milder flavor.
  • The dish can be garnished with additional parsley or hot sauce for extra flavor.
  • Use parchment or non-stick spray if rice sticks to your pan.
  • Adjust Cajun seasoning to your spice tolerance, adding more for a spicier dish.
