Ingredients

Scale

Meatballs

  • 500g minced beef
  • 1 egg
  • 80g breadcrumbs
  • 1 tsp sweet paprika
  • 1.5 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp pepper

Sauce

  • 1 onion, diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, chopped
  • 1 tbsp tomato paste
  • 200 ml cream
  • 100 ml vegetable broth
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • 1 handful parsley, chopped

Mashed Potatoes

  • 1.5 kg floury potatoes
  • 100 g butter
  • 100 ml milk
  • 100 ml potato cooking water
  • 1 pinch nutmeg
  • Salt and pepper, to taste

Instructions

  1. Prepare Mashed Potatoes: Peel the potatoes and cut them into equally sized pieces for even cooking. Cook them in salted water for about 20-30 minutes until they become soft and tender.
  2. Mash Potatoes: Drain the potatoes, reserving the cooking water. Mash the potatoes together with the reserved potato water, milk, butter, salt, pepper, and a pinch of nutmeg until smooth and creamy.
  3. Make Meatballs Mixture: In a bowl, combine the minced beef, egg, breadcrumbs, salt, pepper, and sweet paprika. Mix thoroughly to evenly distribute the ingredients.
  4. Form Meatballs: Shape the mixture into small balls, approximately 25 grams each, ensuring they are uniform in size for consistent cooking.
  5. Fry Meatballs: Heat oil in a pan over medium heat. Fry the meatballs for about 10 minutes, turning occasionally to brown all sides evenly. Once cooked, remove the meatballs from the pan and set aside.
  6. Prepare Sauce: In the same pan, fry the diced onions until translucent. Add chopped garlic and fry briefly until fragrant.
  7. Combine Sauce Ingredients: Add the tomato paste to the pan and sauté briefly. Deglaze the pan by pouring in the cream and vegetable broth, stirring to combine.
  8. Simmer Meatballs in Sauce: Season the sauce with salt and pepper, then add the meatballs back into the pan. Cover and let cook over medium heat for about 5-10 minutes to allow flavors to meld and meatballs to heat through.
  9. Serve: Sprinkle chopped parsley over the meatballs and serve warm, accompanied by the creamy mashed potatoes.

Notes

  • For best texture, use floury potatoes like Russets or Maris Piper for the mashed potatoes.
  • If you prefer a richer sauce, use heavy cream instead of regular cream.
  • Make sure not to overcrowd the pan when frying the meatballs to ensure even browning.
  • Reserve some potato cooking water to adjust the mashed potatoes’ consistency if needed.
  • This recipe can be doubled easily for larger groups.
