Ingredients

Scale

Base Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons olive oil or butter
  • 8 ounces mushrooms, sliced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced

Dairy Ingredients

  • 8 ounces cream cheese, softened
  • 1/2 cup sour cream
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese, divided
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese

Seasonings

  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon fresh thyme or parsley, chopped

Instructions

  1. Sauté Mushrooms: Heat olive oil or butter in a skillet over medium heat. Add sliced mushrooms and cook for 8-10 minutes until browned and tender. Add minced garlic and sauté for an additional 1 minute to release its aroma.
  2. Create Creamy Base: Lower the heat to low. Add softened cream cheese and sour cream to the skillet. Stir continuously until the mixture is melted, smooth, and fully combined with the mushrooms and garlic.
  3. Add Cheese: Stir in half of the shredded mozzarella and all of the grated Parmesan cheese. Mix well until the dip is creamy and the cheeses are evenly distributed throughout.
  4. Bake the Dip: Sprinkle the remaining shredded mozzarella evenly on top of the dip in the skillet. Transfer the skillet to a preheated oven at 375°F (190°C). Bake for 15-20 minutes, or until the dip is bubbly and the cheese on top turns golden brown.
  5. Garnish and Serve: Remove the dip from the oven and garnish with fresh chopped thyme or parsley. Serve hot with your choice of bread, crackers, or vegetable sticks for dipping.

Notes

  • You can substitute fresh thyme with fresh parsley or other herbs based on preference.
  • Use a cast-iron skillet or an oven-safe skillet for baking the dip.
  • For a lighter version, use reduced-fat cream cheese and sour cream.
  • This dip is best enjoyed warm right out of the oven but can be reheated gently in an oven or microwave.
  • Feel free to add a pinch of crushed red pepper flakes in the sauté step for a slight kick.
